Built by the community.
Loved by the community.
Freedom Park is one of the most ambitious volunteer-built parks in the Pacific Northwest — privately funded, publicly treasured, and rooted in a story worth telling.
Dedicated on July 4th
Freedom Park opened its gates on Independence Day, 2003 — a fitting tribute to the community members and veterans it honors.
A Living Memorial
The park's name and founding are directly tied to the Pearl Harbor memorial legacy — honoring sacrifice, service, and the freedom that followed.
Community Funded
Not a single dollar of government money built this park. Every dollar came from residents, local businesses, and community organizations who believed in the vision.
A park for every generation on Camano Island
Freedom Park Association is the volunteer-led nonprofit organization responsible for the ongoing stewardship, maintenance, and improvement of Freedom Park — located at the gateway to Camano Island at the intersection of Highway 532 and East North Camano Drive.
The park serves thousands of visitors each year — families with young children, community groups, visitors to the island, and longtime residents who remember helping build it. Admission is always free. The park is open every day from dawn to dusk.
The Association is governed by a volunteer board of directors drawn from the Camano Island community. They manage the park's finances, coordinate maintenance and improvements, and serve as stewards of both the physical space and the community trust it represents.
Meet the Board
From an empty lot to a community landmark — in less than two years.
The story of Freedom Park begins in 2001 with a vision, a generous land donation, and a community that refused to wait for someone else to make it happen. The Pearl Harbor memorial connection, the C.A.R.E. organization, the July 4th dedication — it's a story worth reading in full.
