Board of Directors
Freedom Park Association is governed by a volunteer board of directors drawn from the Camano Island community. These are the people who keep the park running, the lights on, and the mission alive.
Mike Nestor
PresidentMike is a third-generation Camano Islander with roots on the island going back to 1932. He was drafted in 1969 and completed two tours of duty in Vietnam before being honorably discharged in 1973. Since the 1980s, Mike has been an active and committed member of the Camano Island community — and as President of Freedom Park Association, he brings that same lifelong dedication to ensuring this park endures for the generations that follow.
Grant Shaw
Vice PresidentGrant Shaw and his wife T'na have called Camano Island home since 1995. He was one of the last volunteers off the site during the original playground build in 2010, and when the park faced foreclosure in 2017, he returned and joined the board that saved it. In the years since, Grant has taken on nearly every major improvement project the park has undertaken — from the Gateway Gallery refurbishment to the playground fence, the west parking lot, and the boardwalk replacement — while managing the park's message board week in and week out. He'll tell you he's just "The Lorax" — he speaks for the park.
Jessica McCready
SecretaryJessica serves as Executive Director of the Camano Island Chamber of Commerce, where she leads community engagement, tourism promotion, member support, and signature events that strengthen the Stanwood–Camano area. Her work centers on building connections between local businesses, residents, visitors, and community partners — and she brings that same dedication to her service on the Freedom Park board.
Brandon Ericson
TreasurerBrandon is a local business owner and Camano Island community member who understands firsthand how much shared spaces matter to families, kids, and neighbors. Through his work at Camano Commons Marketplace and his involvement with local organizations, he has seen the role Freedom Park plays in bringing people together — and he is proud to help keep it a welcoming place to gather, play, and connect.
